Small Business Innovator of the Year Award: Vital Communities A small nonprofit, this unique group of dedicated Upper Valley citizens bring imagination, energy, and New England community spirit together to create solutions to our region’s challenges.

Chamber Achievement Award: Jane and Peter McLaughlin Jane’s down-to-earth, inspirational philanthropic leadership and support, and Peter’s visionary direction of Chicago Soft have led to their outstanding civic and charitable contributions to the community.

Winners were honored at an awards dinner in November at the Hopkins Center of Dartmouth College, preceded by a reception at the Top of the Hop. This event was sponsored by Cape Air, which recognizes the contribution of inspiring leadership by individuals and organizations throughout the Upper Valley. Citizens Bank sponsored the reception.

“These winners have succeeded during today’s economic uncertainty by believing that optimism is essential to achievement … and is the foundation of true progress and courage,” said Doug Wise, event Chair. “As we reviewed the stories of candidate Upper Valley businesses, especially those of our award recipients, we realized how fortunate we are to have a special brand of leadership in the Upper Valley.”

Janet Rebman, HACC Executive Director, pledged, “as these awards inspire others— regardless of vocation or avocation—to the kinds of achievements that will help this place we call ‘home’ be even better, the Chamber will continue to recognize and celebrate such achievements.”

The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce is an association of 350 members from all walks of for-profit and not-for-profit ventures whose mission is “to invigorate the economic health  of the area we serve, while contributing to the well-being of the Upper Valley.”
