When summer draws to a close and fall begins, we are blessed with quite a few wonderful things – cooler temps, beautiful foliage . . . and new television series! Between September and October, there are new series starting on almost every major network. Read on to find out which ones are on our must-watch list this season!

The Affair (Showtime) – premieres Sunday, Oct. 19 at 10/9C

Dominic West (The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther) star in this series that examines the psychological effects of infidelity on two different marriages. The cheaters, named above, meet and begin their affair in the Hamptons where West’s character, Noah, a school teacher, summers with his in-laws and Wilson’s character, Allison, is a waitress. Maura Tierney (ER) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe) star as the spouses being cheated on. The story is told from alternating male and female perspectives. With an excellent cast, this show is sure to be winner.

Gotham (Fox) – premieres Monday, Sept. 22 at 8/7C

Based on the characters in DC Comic’s series Batman, this series provides the origin story of future Gotham police commissioner Jim Gordon. Ben McKenzie, of Southland and The O.C., stars as Gordon, a fresh-faced police detective whose life begins to change when he and his partner, the brash Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), start investigating the murder of the parents of a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). While following Gordon in his rise through the ranks of the Gotham City PD, this series also serves to provide the origin of some of DC Comic’s villains, including the Penguin, Catwoman, and the Riddler. This is one of several series based on comic books this fall.

Red Band Society (Fox) – premiered Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 9/8C

Adapted from a Spanish TV show, Red Band Society is a coming-of-age comedy/drama set in the children’s ward of a Los Angeles hospital. Narrated by Charlie (who is in a coma), it follows a group of adolescent patients (Griffin Gluck, Zoe Levin, Charlie Rowe, Astro, Ciara Bravo, and Nolan Sotillo) as they face life-threatening challenges including cancer, eating disorders, cystic fibrosis, and heart defects. Their mentors include the doctors and nurses (Dave Annable, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Octavia Spencer) who care for them and try to guide them through the trials and tribulations of adolescence. The teen patients create a life-changing bond symbolized by their red hospital bands. They share experiences that are uplifting and challenging, tragic and humorous, ordinary and extraordinary – and they face them together.

Stalker (CBS) – premieres Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 10/9C

This violent and shocking thriller comes from the mind of The Following's Kevin Williamson. Starring Dylan McDermott as Detective Jack Larsen and Maggie Q as Lieutenant Beth Davis, Stalker follows a division of the LAPD that deals with stalkers, voyeurs, and love-obsessed weirdos who target men and women, often with deadly results. Larsen and Davis do good police work but are much more complex than they appear. One look at the trailer for this show and you’ll be ready for more.

Intruders (BBC America) – premiered Saturday, Aug. 23 at 10/9C

Based on Michael Marshall Smith’s 2007 novel of the same name, BBC America’s newest series stars Doctor Who’s John Simm as Jack Whelan, a former Los Angeles cop who has relocated with his wife Amy (Mira Sorvino) to the Pacific Northwest in search of a quieter life. But Amy suddenly vanishes, and Jack’s high school friend Gary Fischer (Tory Kettles) appears on his doorstep asking for help with a murder investigation. As these and other seemingly disconnected events converge, Jack discovers a secret society whose members chase immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others.
